Why are The Reiki Center’s classes so popular? The Reiki Center is the only center in Central Ohio to offer certified Reiki classes taught in the Traditional method. Most classes in North America are taught in the “Modern” or “Western” method, which often eliminates the importance of finding meaning and purpose in your life. The Reiki Center teachers sincerely believe that a comprehensive education program provides the foundation you will need to fully understand every aspect of working with energy techniques.
Taught in the method developed in 1921 by Mikao Usui, classes are small to give each student the personalized attention needed to succeed. Four individual attunements are provided in the Traditional method - for both the Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 classes - to permit the energy and empowerment to flow from teacher to student. In addition, important topics such as the chakra system and the body’s microcosmic energy orbit are discussed in detail to understand how all forms of energy impact the body. Students receive a detailed understanding of how a chakra can be out of balance, how to recognize an imbalance in one’s emotional or physical body, and how to return wholeness through the use of crystals, food, color, mantras and other balancing tools.
Combined with a binder and comprehensive handouts, vegetarian lunches and refreshments, and ample practice time, the Center’s program has become a model for nurturing students from the first moment of feeling energy flow to helping you share your professional skills with others. Free Reiki Shares to enhance your skills, an Internship Program and Continuing Education classes for those who wish to advance their abilities, and a supportive environment that mentors your Reiki training all make the difference.
What is the difference between Traditional and Modern Reiki?
There are many different options for learning Reiki that it can often be confusing to identify which school offers the best program for you. Some Modern programs cover just the basics, such as hand positions. Some schools provide verbal instruction only and do not provide opportunity to practice on each other or binders of information that you can use later for reference purposes. Sometimes there is only one attunement or a class may only be a few hours long.
When the technique was introduced to the United States just prior to World War II, many of Reiki’s basic truths were omitted in response to anti-Japanese sentiment. There was further concern that Western audiences wouldn’t understand the importance of creating a foundation of meaning and purpose in your own life before helping others. Furthermore, the history of Reiki was significantly altered to make it more acceptable to American consumers, e.g. the founder was no longer a Japanese Buddhist businessman but was instead Dr. Usui, a Christian missionary who ran a Christian boys school. The modified version has been called the “Modern” or “Western” version.
The Reiki Center follows the original intent of Reiki as a spiritual development tool, first helping you to find meaning and purpose in your own life. Classes focus on developing effective affirmations, learning how to identify and connect to your Guides, enhancing your intuitive abilities, discovering which meditation techniques work for you, and helping to release the emotional and physical concerns that often limit our success.
Those interested in learning about using Reiki should research what is available and select the program that best meets your overall goal.

Master Level Training
In the Traditional method, students must be invited to sit for the Master Class Training; they cannot simply register for it. This ensures that only the most skilled students achieve the highest level of training at The Reiki Center.
Five core elements determine a student’s readiness: skills, experience, commitment, personal development, and release of ego. In the Master Level class, students receive two Master Level attunements, receive the two Master symbols, learn the Ritual of Attunements and receive a 3” binder of materials to help prepare the student to teach his/her own classes, if that is the path they desire.
Two-day classes provide maximum opportunity for discourse and self-discovery. Upon completion, the student will have certification to teach. Class fee is $500 per student.
