CranioSacral Therapy (CST)
was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E.
Upledger at Michigan State University,
where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.
Time Magazine’s online “Innovators” profile
notes that “While assisting in a spinal operation in
the 1970s, Upledger was startled to notice a strong pulse in
the membranes that surrounded the patient’s spinal cord.
He determined that the pulse — which did not appear in
the medical books — was coming from the cerebrospinal
fluid that bathes the brain and spinal cord. He came to believe
that
anything that blocked the flow of this fluid could cause physical
and mental distress. “All these membranes affect brain
function,” he says, “and when they're not moving
properly, there can be harm.”

Using
only 5 grams of pressure, about the weight of a nickel, CST
practitioners gently assist the body to release these restrictions
and facilitate the body’s own healing capacity. The Reiki
Center uses CST in collaboration with the healing energy of
Reiki during treatments to gently enhance the body’s
energetic flow while bringing the physical body into balance.
By complementing the body’s natural healing processes,
CST is increasingly recognized as a preventive health measure
for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, as well as
an effective treatment for a wide range of medical problems
associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and
Back Pain
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopedic Problems
- Emotional Difficulties
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia and other
Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome
(TMJ)
